Yes! But only an infinitesimal chance you will encounter one. While New Smyrna Beach is known as the shark bite capital of the world, most bites are very minor and are generally to those participating in board sports, such as surfing. I've never even seen a shark in these waters. They are there, all around Florida. Unless you are a surfer going out to off shore breaks, there is no need to worry.
Golf carts can be driven on any road that has a posted speed of 35 mph or slower. Driver mush have a driver's license. Golf carts must be registered. https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/mv/lowspeedvehicles.pdf. There are several reputable rental companies.
You can drive on the beach from sunrise to sunset Nov. 1 through April 30, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 1 through Oct. 31. These times can be affected by high tides, so check! And don't leave your car unattended for long periods with an incoming tide, just in case it is unusually high. And if you leave your car on the beach past closing, you will get a fine and it's time consuming to get let off the beach, since everyone is off duty. Please obey the rules of beach driving: drive 10 mph, stay in lanes, and drive with your windows open.
Every. Single. Day. Just ask the lifeguards, who will help dig you out. Avoid getting stuck by backing in to your parking spot and avoiding anything that looks like soft sand. The car lanes are generally well-packed.
It is $20 a day (with re-entry privledges) or $100 for a one year pass for non-residents of Volusia County. Resident prices are much cheaper, but you must show proof of residency and vehicle must be titled in your name.
New Smyrna Beach is particularly well suited to bikes on the beach. The sand near the water is generally hard-packed, as are the car lanes. As with any beach, the soft sand in between can be quite challenging. There is no charge to enter with a bike on the vehicle entry lanes. Just beware of potential soft sand at the end of the ramp. The kind of stuff that cars get through but at high speeds will launch you right over the handle bars, as your bike makes a very sudden stop. Speaking from experience. Bike rentals available around town, and many short-term rentals also include bike access.
Yes, many of them! Navigate to "Where to Eat" section.
It is very reasonable! Lodging and food is much cheaper than places like Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa, Naples, and Sarasota.
Only one or two days to visit one of the big ticket amusement parks? Here are some hints at which park may be best for you. We always recommend getting a park hopper, both at Disney and Universal, if you are only going for a day or two. Our personal favorite is a split day at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. If you have young kids, just make a bee-line for the Magic Kingdom, you are going to spend your time in the lines for Dumbo and character autographs. God speed.
Oh yes, there is also SeaWorld. We've never bothered to go, so can't help you there. We assume it's similar to the one in San Diego, which is very cool. Is it better than Disney World. Uhhhh...no.
If you love Harry Potter, this should be your choice. Harry Potter world is fantastic. If you're not much into Harry Potter, we highly recommend going to Disneyworld instead. Universal is good for teens. It also has arguably better roller coasters than Disneyworld.
This is hands down our favorite park. Beautiful throughout, Pandora section and Avatar ride are amazing, great roller coaster (Everest), relaxing safari ride, and fun shows! Try to see both the Lion King and Finding Nemo performances. We like to make reservations at the Rain Forest Cafe for the end of the day.
Great for kids. For adults and teens, we recommend you start elsewhere, although the seven dwarfs ride is fun and there are many nostalgic rides and it has the best fireworks. Make reservations at the Crystal Palace or Cinderella's Royal Table. The kids will get autographs, you'll get well-deserved air conditioning
Star Wars and Toy Story fans should go here. Plus the Rockin' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror are always fun. We've never spent more than half a day at this one. We do love lunch at the Sci-Fi Theater!
Love some of the rides (soarin', test track, mission to mars). We've never been fans of the world showcase around the lake. Half a day is plenty of time for this park.
They are all fantastic! Universal's Aquatica and Disney's Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Fantastic way to cool off on a hot Florida day. If the weather is chilly, don't do it!
